Diablo 4 Season 16 Tyrael’s Boons Guide: Best Path Order for Leveling, Farming and Endgame

category:Diablo 4

Oct-31-2026     Source: MMOSO

Tyrael’s Boons is one of the main progression systems coming to Diablo 4 Season 16. Built into seasonal War Plans, it lets you steer rewards toward Gold and experience, Legendary drops, crafting materials, or endgame upgrades.

The tree has four paths—Scent of Gold, Curious Addition, Merchant of Mystery, and Trash for Treasure—and 132 points, enough to finish all four. Each path still has two mutually exclusive branches, so you choose one reward line per path.

PTR note: Based on Diablo 4 patch 3.3.0 PTR (October 27–November 3, 2026). Node values and effects may change before Season 16 launches.

Diablo 4 Tyrael’s Boons Guide: Best Path Order

How Tyrael’s Boons Works

Completing seasonal War Plans progression earns points you invest across the four paths. All Seasonal players can use the main tree; Lord of Hatred is not required to unlock it, though some individual rewards are expansion-gated.

How the 132 Points Are Distributed

The tree has 28 nodes. Each path costs 33 points:

Part of each path Points
Entry node 1
Main ranked node (collector) 25
One selected branch (two nodes) 6
Final node 1
Total per path 33

You can finish all four paths, but only one branch line per path. Plan that choice before you spend—especially while gear and crafting stocks are still thin.

Respec Cost

On the PTR, unassigning a Tyrael’s Boons point costs 5,000,000 Gold per point. Large respecs add up fast.

Boons ≠ War Plans Tactics. Tactics and Activity trees respec with Marks of Wisdom; Tyrael’s Boons respecs use Gold.

1. Scent of Gold: Best Starting Point for Most Characters

Scent of Gold supports general progression: faster leveling, more Gold, and a better shot at Legendaries while you build your kit.

Main rewards:

  • Scent of Gold: +25% Gold found
  • Lessons in Victory: +4% experience from kills per rank, up to +100% at rank 25
  • Legendary Luck: +50% chance to find a Legendary item

Pull Lessons in Victory early—the XP bonus applies to every kill while you climb. Finish the path for Legendary Luck as you start replacing leveling gear. Neither guarantees a drop, but both help across more activities than a specialized farm tree.

Choose the Right Scent of Gold Branch

Material Desires + Diamonds in the Dirt (crafting materials)

  • Material Desires: +15% Horadric Cube materials found per rank, up to 45%
  • Diamonds in the Dirt: +15% Gem Fragments found per rank, up to 45%

Take this if you use the Horadric Cube often or need a steady Gem Fragment supply.

Sacks of Coin + Fistful of Gems (elite combat drops)

  • Sacks of Coin: Champions and Elites can drop a burst of Gold
  • Fistful of Gems: Champions and Elites can drop a burst of Gems

Effects scale with ranks. Take this if you clear elite-heavy routes and want combat bursts over flat material gains.

Recommendation: Most characters still building crafting stocks should take the material branch. Prefer the elite-drop branch only if materials are already comfortable and your farm is elite-dense. Either way, finish Lessons in Victory and Legendary Luck before specializing elsewhere.

2. Curious Addition: Better Purveyor of Curiosities Rewards

Curious Addition expands the Purveyor and improves Obol spending. It pays off when you already have Obols and are hunting gear upgrades—not while currencies are thin.

Main rewards:

  • Curious Addition: Adds a new Purveyor entry not tied to a specific equipment slot, with a much higher chance to be Unique or Legendary
  • Two for One: +1% chance per rank of a second item on purchase, up to 25%
  • Premium Purveyor: Purveyor costs 3×, but Ancestral likelihood rises sharply

Two for One is a clean upgrade for regular Obol spenders. Premium Purveyor is specialized: use it when you can absorb the tax and are specifically chasing Ancestral pieces—not as the default for every purchase.

Choose the Right Curious Addition Branch

Quality Seals + Good Luck Charms

Adds Purveyor entries for Horadric Seals and Charms. Requires Lord of Hatred. Take this only if you own the expansion and want those item types from the Purveyor.

Legendary Addition + Distinctive Addition

  • Legendary Addition: Slightly higher Legendary chance on the new entry
  • Distinctive Addition: Slightly higher Unique chance on the new entry

Recommendation: No Lord of Hatred (or no need for Seals/Charms)—take Legendary Addition + Distinctive Addition. Own LoH and want those entries—take the Seal/Charm branch. Invest here after early leveling priorities, once Obol income is reliable.

3. Merchant of Mystery: Forgotten Souls for Archetype Caches

Merchant of Mystery unlocks Master Mercer, who sells Archetype Caches for Forgotten Souls. On the current PTR he appears in Temis and Gea Kul on Torment difficulty.

This path matters once Forgotten Souls come in volume and you can spend some on caches instead of only on other crafts.

Main rewards:

  • Merchant of Mystery: Unlocks Master Mercer and Archetype Caches
  • Blessed Antiquities: +0.4% per rank chance that Ancestral Archetype Caches appear in stock, up to 10% (stock chance—not “every purchase is Ancestral”)
  • Exquisite Item: Guarantees an Ancestral Archetype Cache in stock

Choose the Right Merchant of Mystery Branch

Stuff of Legends + One of a Kind (equipment caches)

  • Stuff of Legends: +1 Archetype Cache in stock
  • One of a Kind: Adds a Greater Archetype Cache to stock

Take this for more gear-oriented cache options.

Word of Power + Crown Jewel (Runes / Gems)

  • Word of Power: Adds a Rune Cache (Rune up to Magic quality).
  • Crown Jewel: Adds a Gem Cache (Gem up to Flawless quality)

Recommendation: Prioritize Stuff of Legends + One of a Kind for gear. Take Runes/Gems only if those resources are the real bottleneck and you meet the expansion requirement. Treat this as a later path once Souls are plentiful.

4. Trash for Treasure: Crafting and Greater Temper

Trash for Treasure is the endgame crafting path: Alchemist costs, Forgotten Souls, Obducite, Scrolls of Restoration, and Greater Temper. It matters after you have candidates worth refining—not during early leveling.

Main rewards:

  • Trash for Treasure: −30% Alchemist transmute cost
  • Forgotten and Found: +1% Forgotten Souls found per rank, up to 25% (also feeds Merchant of Mystery if you run both)
  • Magic in the Metal: Unlocks the Horadric Cube Greater Temper recipe; Ancestral Unique items can grant Scrolls of Restoration when salvaged (PTR node text). Blizzard’s broader PTR notes say salvage chance from Ancestral items—confirm exact behavior on live.

Choose the Right Trash for Treasure Branch

Eye for Obducite + Tempered Expectations (steady crafting mats)

  • Eye for Obducite: +10% Obducite found per rank, up to 30%
  • Tempered Expectations: +10% chance per rank for additional Scrolls of Restoration

Take this for predictable Obducite and Scroll income.

Obducite Pillager + Spare Parts (elite bursts)

  • Obducite Pillager: Champions and Elites can drop a burst of Obducite
  • Spare Parts: Champions and Elites can drop a burst of Salvage Materials

Take this for elite-heavy farm routes.

How Greater Temper Works

Greater Temper upgrades a Tempered Affix to a Greater Affix. PTR recipe cost:

  • 30 Scrolls of Restoration
  • 1,000 Obducite

PTR reports also suggest the item may need to be Ancestral—treat that as a test observation until Blizzard confirms for live Season 16.

Recommendation: Prefer Eye for Obducite + Tempered Expectations for most crafters; take the elite-burst branch if your sessions are Champion/Elite dense. Complete this path when you have gear worth the Scroll/Obducite spend.

Best Tyrael’s Boons Path Order for Season 16

Progression stage Recommended path Main reason
Leveling Scent of Gold Experience, Gold, then Legendary Luck
Early gearing Curious Addition Obols → better Purveyor rewards
Resource-based gearing Merchant of Mystery Forgotten Souls → Archetype Caches
Endgame crafting Trash for Treasure Materials + Greater Temper

After Scent of Gold, pick the next 33 points by bottleneck:

Need gear and have Obols → Curious Addition

Have Forgotten Souls to spend → Merchant of Mystery

Refining endgame pieces → Trash for Treasure

Tyrael’s Boons and Seasonal Blessings Are Separate

Tyrael’s Boons does not replace Seasonal Blessings. Blizzard confirmed the five Seasonal Blessings stay as a fixed set in Season 16; Boons add another progression layer. Use both together.
