Diablo 4 Season 11 Greater Affixes Guide: GA Tempering, Scrolls & Mistakes to Avoid

Dec-23-2025

Many Diablo 4 players still treat Greater Affixes (GA) as pure luck something nice when it happens, but not worth actively chasing.

In Season 11, that assumption is costing players real power.

Thanks to tempering changes and Scrolls of Restoration, GA tempers are far more achievable than most people think especially on the right Ancestral items. If you plan to Sanctify your gear, understanding how GA works is no longer optional.

Diablo 4 Season 11 Greater Affixes Guide

The Season 11 Reality: GA Is Not "Just Luck"

Community testing tells a very different story from common belief.

Players who actually spent their Scrolls of Restoration and tracked results across dozens of rerolls noticed a clear pattern:

  • GA tempers frequently appear within 25 rerolls
  • Average feels closer to 1 GA every 1020 attempts
  • Some GAs landed on the first or third try

RNG is still real unlucky streaks happen but GA tempers are not ultra-rare. Most players simply stop rerolling too early or hoard scrolls instead of using them.

One Critical Rule Most Players Miss

Before going any further, this matters more than anything else:

GA tempering only works on Ancestral (800 Item Power) gear.

  • Tempering a 750 item will never roll a Greater Affix
  • Any Scrolls used there are completely wasted

If the item is not Ancestral, stop immediately.

How Greater Affixes Actually Work in Season 11

Here is the simplified version that actually matters in practice:

  • Greater Affixes only appear on  Ancestral items
  • Each Ancestral drop has at least one GA, up to four
  • GA values roll at 150% of the normal maximum
  • Only dropped items can have GA Enchanting cannot create them

Greater Affixes appear on:

  • Legendary items
  • Unique items
  • Mythic Uniques (always Ancestral, always at least one GA)

You won't start seeing GA at all until Torment I difficulty or higher.

GA and Tempering: Why Scrolls Change Everything

When you temper an affix, there is a chance it rolls as a Greater Affix version of that stat.

Once your normal temper attempts are used up:

Scrolls of Restoration reset temper durability

You can retry indefinitely, as long as scrolls remain

Scrolls are consumed automatically in the tempering UI

This turns GA tempering into a long-term probability game, not a one-shot gamble.

That's why rerolling is often worth it but only on items that actually matter.

Temper Durability and GA: Hidden Value

Greater Affixes also affect how much you can work on an item.

Base Temper Durability: 5

Each GA adds +1 durability

Example:

2 GA item 7 total tempers

3 GA item 8 total tempers

More GA means more room to optimize before locking the item.

Removing a Greater Affix: What Really Happens

If you Enchant a Greater Affix at the Occultist:

It rerolls into a normal affix

Item Power stays at 800

Maximum Temper Durability is reduced by 1

Important tip:

If you plan to remove a GA, do all tempering first. Existing tempers remain even if max durability drops afterward.

Sanctification: Don't Lock Too Early

Sanctifying an item can add another bonus but it also permanently locks the gear.

Best Season 11 order:

1. Temper (chase GA if appropriate)

2. Enchant

3. Masterwork

4. Sanctify last

Sanctifying early is one of the fastest ways to brick an otherwise great item.

Where Scrolls of Restoration Come From

Scrolls are easier to sustain than many players think.

Dropped from Infernal Hordes

Spend all Aether on Materials Chests for best returns

If you run Hordes regularly, scrolls stop being a bottleneck.

Should You Chase GA on Every Item?

Absolutely not and this is where smart players pull ahead.

GA tempers are worth chasing when:

The item is build-defining

The base rolls are already near-perfect

You plan to Sanctify and keep it long-term

Avoid GA chasing when:

The item is temporary

The slot has low impact

You'll replace it in a short session

Some players hit GA quickly. Others burn hundreds of scrolls. Know when the power gain is actually worth the cost.

Final Takeaway

Greater Affixes in Diablo 4 Season 11 are not just lucky bonuses.

If you are:

Farming Torment content

Using Ancestral gear

Spending Scrolls intentionally

Then GA tempers become a controlled upgrade path, not blind RNG.

They are not guaranteed but they are far more achievable than most players assume.
