Diablo 4 Meat or Treat Guide: Farm Goblin Rewards and Find the Infernal Butcher

Diablo 4's Halloween events are currently underway, giving players a limited-time opportunity to hunt Treasure Goblins, progress through the March of the Goblins reputation track, and encounter the Infernal Butcher.

The two activities offer different rewards. Killing Treasure Goblins advances a reward track in Kyovashad, while Meat or Treat adds unexpected effects to Dungeon Shrines and introduces the Infernal Butcher as a potential encounter. If you have limited playtime, prioritize the Goblin reward track first, then use Dungeon runs to take advantage of the additional Shrine effects.

Diablo 4 Meat or Treat Guide: Goblin Rewards and Butcher

Diablo 4 Meat or Treat and March of the Goblins End Dates

The two events have different reported end dates:

March of the Goblins: Ends November 4 at 10 a.m. PT.

Meat or Treat celebration: Ends November 5 at 10 a.m. PT.

Blizzard's official announcement confirms that the Meat or Treat celebration runs until November 5 at 10 a.m. PT. The November 4 deadline for the Goblin reputation track comes from community event coverage; Blizzard has not published a separate official end-date announcement for that track.

If you are mainly interested in the Goblin rewards, treat November 4 as your deadline. Do not assume the reputation track will remain available for the full duration of the broader Halloween celebration.

March of the Goblins: Earn Reputation and Claim Rewards

March of the Goblins gives Treasure Goblin hunting a clear progression goal. Killing Treasure Goblins earns reputation, advancing a ten-rank reward track.

You can check your progress and claim unlocked rewards at the Goblin Altar in Kyovashad, near the Waypoint. Visit the altar before farming so you know which rewards you still need.

What Rewards Can You Get?

The reward track includes Goblin Gifts containing different types of loot, with additional rewards at specific ranks:

Rank 2 – Baron's Gift: A Gold reward cache.

Rank 4 – Ector's Gift: A cache containing Crafting Materials.

Rank 6 – Murl's Gift: A cache containing Murmuring Obols.

Rank 8 – Prym's Gift: A cache containing Gem Fragments and Runes.

Rank 10 – Fedric's Gift: A cache containing a Resplendent Spark and Runes.

Reaching Rank 10 also unlocks the Regalia of the Sacred Creed mount cosmetic and the March of the Goblins Emblem. If you already earned the emblem during an earlier event, check your reward track to see which rewards are still relevant to your account.

Each named Goblin Gift also slightly increases the chance of Treasure Goblins dropping additional Treasure Bags, according to its in-game description. This gives reputation progression value beyond simply collecting the rank rewards.

How to Farm Treasure Goblins More Efficiently

Rather than searching randomly, focus on activities that provide more opportunities to encounter Treasure Goblins:

  • Explore the open world: Move between areas and watch your map for Treasure Goblin markers.
  • Use Greed Shrines: These can spawn additional Treasure Goblins, making them worth activating when you find one.
  • Run Infernal Hordes: The Total Chaos War Plan perk increases the frequency of Chaos Waves. Treasure Goblin waves can provide substantial progress when they appear.
  • Check your reputation track regularly: Visit the Goblin Altar in Kyovashad and claim rewards as soon as they unlock.

If you are close to Rank 10, prioritize Goblin kills over unrelated farming. The final rank includes a Resplendent Spark and a mount cosmetic, making it particularly valuable.

Meat or Treat: What Happens When You Activate Dungeon Shrines?

Meat or Treat changes how Dungeon Shrines work during the Halloween celebration. Activating a Shrine can trigger an additional surprise effect on top of its normal bonus.

This means a familiar Shrine interaction can produce an unexpected encounter or reward instead of simply granting its usual effect. Some additional effects can also make a Dungeon run more dangerous, so do not assume every Shrine activation will be beneficial.

For players already running Nightmare Dungeons, this creates a practical opportunity: you can continue farming experience and equipment while watching for event encounters.

Prioritize Dungeons with multiple Shrines when possible. More Shrine opportunities give you more chances to experience the event's additional effects without abandoning your usual progression.

Infernal Butcher: Is He Worth Hunting?

The Infernal Butcher is one of the main attractions of this year's Meat or Treat event. This burning version of the Butcher can invade your game during the celebration, turning an otherwise routine activity into a dangerous fight.

Community reports describe encounters with the Infernal Butcher during Dungeon runs involving event Shrines. However, the encounter is not guaranteed every time you activate one, and Blizzard has not published a fixed spawn rate.

If you want to look for him, prioritize Dungeon runs with Shrines and be ready for an unexpected fight.

Keep these points in mind:

  • Not every Shrine summons the Infernal Butcher: Continue through the Dungeon if nothing unusual happens.
  • Prepare for a tougher encounter: Higher-difficulty content can make an unexpected Butcher appearance more dangerous.
  • Avoid unnecessary risks on Hardcore characters: Additional Shrine effects can make an otherwise manageable run unpredictable.
  • Do not build your entire farming plan around one spawn: Continue working on Goblin reputation and other Dungeon objectives while waiting for an encounter.

The Infernal Butcher is a worthwhile bonus encounter, but it is less predictable than the Goblin reward track. Treat it as an extra opportunity rather than the main goal of your event farming.

How to Prioritize Your Remaining Event Time

With the Goblin reputation track ending before the broader Meat or Treat celebration, your priorities should depend on which rewards you still need.

Check your Goblin reputation: Visit the Goblin Altar in Kyovashad and see how far you are from Rank 10.

Prioritize Treasure Goblin kills: Focus on the remaining reputation rewards, especially the Resplendent Spark and mount cosmetic.

Run Dungeons with Shrines: Once you have made progress on the reward track, use Dungeon runs to experience Meat or Treat's additional effects.

Fight the Infernal Butcher if he appears: Take advantage of the encounter, but do not rely on it as a guaranteed farming method.

Claim your unlocked rewards before November 4: Do not leave the Goblin reward track until the final day.

One additional change is worth keeping in mind: Patch 3.2.4 increased the maximum stack size of Prime Evil Splinters from 1 to 99. This makes collecting and managing them more convenient while farming event loot and other materials.

For most players, the best use of the remaining event time is straightforward: finish the March of the Goblins reward track first, then continue running Dungeons for Shrine effects and possible Infernal Butcher encounters. This approach prioritizes the rewards with the earlier deadline while still letting you enjoy the broader Halloween event.
