Elden Ring Community Quest 3 Guide: Rune Arc Farming & All 9 Legendary Weapons

Path of the Elden Lord runs November 2–28, 2026 — Elden Ring’s third community challenge. Four shared goals sit on the table: Alexander summons, Rune Arcs, Legendary Armaments, and Spirit Ashes to +8. This guide covers the farms, pickup spots, and prep you need whether you’re grinding for the Discord counter or just cleaning up your own checklist.

Elden Ring Community Challenge: All Four Goals

The November challenge has four community-wide targets:

• Summon Warrior Jar Alexander: 50,000 times.
• Obtain Rune Arcs: 3,000,000 in total.
• Obtain Legendary Armaments: 500,000 in total.
• Upgrade standard Spirit Ashes: 100,000 summons to +8.

These are shared milestones for the player community, not four individual requirements that every player must complete alone.

Bandai Namco has also announced commemorative artwork by Louis Gibiard (vladinsk) and a Warrior Jar Alexander Twitch chat badge designed by Carsondrewit. You can follow the community's progress through the official Elden Ring Discord during the event.

How to Farm Rune Arcs in Elden Ring

Rune Arcs activate the effects of equipped Great Runes and are one of the main collection targets in the community challenge. You can obtain them through multiplayer activities, enemy drops, and limited merchant stock.

1. Earn Rune Arcs Through Multiplayer

Multiplayer is one of the most repeatable ways to earn Rune Arcs. You can receive one after successfully completing certain online activities:

• Co-op boss victories: Use a Furled Finger or Small Golden Effigy to help another player defeat a boss.

• Invader victories: Defeat the host while invading another player's world.

• Hunter victories: Join another player's world as a hunter and defeat the invader.

For co-op farming, place your summon sign near popular boss encounters. Your character level and highest weapon upgrade affect matchmaking, so the number of available sessions depends on your character's progression and the players in the area.

This method is useful if you are already progressing through the game and want to collect Rune Arcs while helping other Tarnished.

2. Farm Giant Rats

Giant Rats have a chance to drop Rune Arcs, making them an option for players who prefer farming without multiplayer. Their drop rate is low, however, so expect repeated runs rather than guaranteed rewards.

Two locations worth trying are:

• Earthbore Cave, Weeping Peninsula: Several rats are inside the cave, including a larger rat near the entrance.

• Beside the Rampart Gaol, Castle Morne: A small group of rats can be found near the Site of Grace.

You can improve Item Discovery by equipping the Silver Scarab talisman, using a Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot, or raising your Arcane stat. These bonuses improve your chances of receiving item drops but do not guarantee Rune Arcs.

Do not confuse this method with the popular bird farm in Mohgwyn Palace. That farm is used to collect Runes, the game's currency, rather than Rune Arcs.

3. Buy Rune Arcs From Merchants

Finite stock only — about 17 Rune Arcs total across shops:

• Twin Maiden Husks (Roundtable Hold): 5 × 4,000
• Nomadic Merchant near Bellum Church: 3 × 4,000
• Hermit Merchant, Capital Outskirts: 3 × 4,000
• Hermit Merchant, east Mountaintops: 3 × 8,000
• Imprisoned Merchant, Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum: 3 × 8,000

Bell Bearings move leftover stock to the Twin Maiden Husks; they do not restock. Rune Arcs cannot be traded between players — lean on multiplayer and rats for the community grind.

All 9 Legendary Armament Locations in Elden Ring

Elden Ring has nine Legendary Armaments in its base game. Collecting all nine is also required for the Legendary Armaments achievement or trophy.

Some weapons are easy to miss because they are tied to quest progression, boss encounters, or areas that change later in the game. If you are collecting them for the achievement, pay particular attention to Bolt of Gransax and Devourer's Scepter.

1. Grafted Blade Greatsword

Defeat the Leonine Misbegotten at Castle Morne in the Weeping Peninsula. The boss is found at the end of the castle's lower area.

2. Sword of Night and Flame

Find the chest inside Caria Manor in Liurnia. Explore the manor's lower walkways and rooftops to reach the chest containing the weapon.

3. Devourer's Scepter

There are two ways to obtain this weapon:

• Defeat Knight Bernahl at Warmaster's Shack.
• Defeat his invasion in Crumbling Farum Azula.

Killing Bernahl at Warmaster's Shack ends his later Volcano Manor assassination quest. If you want to complete that questline first, wait for his invasion in Farum Azula. Make sure you obtain the weapon before defeating Maliketh.

4. Ruins Greatsword

Defeat the Misbegotten Warrior and Crucible Knight duo at Redmane Castle.

If the encounter is unavailable during the Radahn Festival, progress through the festival and defeat Starscourge Radahn. Return to the castle after it resets to access the fight.

5. Marais Executioner's Sword

Defeat Elemer of the Briar at the Shaded Castle in Altus Plateau.

6. Eclipse Shotel

Find the weapon on the altar inside the Church of the Eclipse at Castle Sol in the Mountaintops of the Giants.

7. Dark Moon Greatsword

Complete Ranni's questline and obtain the weapon at the Moonlight Altar. This is a quest reward rather than a regular chest pickup, so allow enough time to complete the required steps.

8. Bolt of Gransax

Pick up the large spear embedded in Leyndell, Royal Capital.

This is the most important missable weapon. Collect it before defeating Maliketh. After Leyndell becomes the Ashen Capital, the original pickup location is no longer accessible in that playthrough.

9. Golden Order Greatsword

Enter the Cave of the Forlorn in the Consecrated Snowfield. You need two Stonesword Keys to unlock the entrance. Defeat the Misbegotten Crusader inside to obtain the weapon.

For the achievement or trophy, all nine Legendary Armaments must be collected on the same character in one playthrough. Weapons from the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC do not replace any of these nine base-game weapons.

How to Summon Warrior Jar Alexander

The community goal is 50,000 NPC summons of Alexander — his gold sign in a boss fight, not multiplayer co-op.

He can help in two places:

• Starscourge Radahn — during the festival, his gold sign appears in the arena.
• Fire Giant — after you meet him in the Mt. Gelmir lava near Seethewater Terminus.

Do not finish his Farum Azula duel first. That ends the quest and removes the Fire Giant summon on that playthrough.

Check both signs while the November window is live if you’re feeding the Discord counter.

How to Upgrade a Standard Spirit Ash to +8

The final community objective asks players to upgrade 100,000 standard Spirit Ashes to +8.

The important distinction is the upgrade material: standard Spirit Ashes use Grave Glovewort, while renowned Spirit Ashes use Ghost Glovewort. Make sure you select a standard summon for this objective.

Where to Find Grave Glovewort

You can collect Grave Glovewort in catacombs and other underground areas. If you prefer buying upgrade materials, find the Grave Glovewort Picker's Bell Bearings and give them to the Twin Maiden Husks.

The three key Bell Bearings are:

• Grave Glovewort Picker's Bell Bearing [1]: Found in Wyndham Catacombs. Unlocks Grave Glovewort [1]–[3] for purchase.
• Grave Glovewort Picker's Bell Bearing [2]: Found in Giants' Mountaintop Catacombs. Unlocks Grave Glovewort [4]–[6].
• Grave Glovewort Picker's Bell Bearing [3]: Found in Crumbling Farum Azula. Unlocks Grave Glovewort [7]–[9].

These Bell Bearings make it easier to obtain materials for higher upgrade levels without repeatedly searching for individual plants.

Unlock Spirit Tuning at Roundtable Hold

Spirit Ash upgrades are handled by Roderika at Roundtable Hold. First, progress her early quest and complete the necessary dialogue with her and Smithing Master Hewg. Once she becomes a Spirit Tuner, you can upgrade your summons.

To reach +8:

1. Talk to Roderika at Roundtable Hold.
2. Select a standard Spirit Ash.
3. Provide the required Grave Glovewort and Runes.
4. Continue upgrading until the summon reaches +8.

You do not need to upgrade a summon to +10 for this community objective. A standard Spirit Ash at +8 meets the stated target.

A Practical Plan for the November Challenge

Fold these into normal progression — you don’t need one marathon session.

• Missables first: Grab Bolt of Gransax before Maliketh; plan around Bernahl and Ranni for the other legendaries.
• Rune Arcs: Co-op / invasions / hunter clears, then buy merchant leftovers when you pass through.
• Alexander: Summon him at Radahn and Fire Giant before his Farum Azula duel.
• Spirit Ash +8: Unlock Roderika, then push a standard ash with Grave Glovewort.
