FromSoftware has revealed the next major expansion for Elden Ring, titled Nightreign, and it will officially start on May 30, 2025. Let’s explore everything revealed in the latest trailer.

 

Following the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree, Nightreign transports players to a new war-torn realm—Limveld, a once-prosperous kingdom blessed by divine grace, now on the brink of collapse.

 

With the ominous “Night's Tide” devouring the land and darkness encroaching from all directions, players will take on the role of a newly arrived Nightfarers, fighting to survive within the shrinking boundaries of a world consumed by shadow. The trailer offers a glimpse of crumbling cities, twisted landscapes, and the looming threat of the Lord of Nightmares.

 

 

Enter the Night's Tide: Dynamic, Procedural Battlegrounds

From the trailer, we can know that one of Nightreign's standout features is its procedurally generated battlefields, ensuring that every expedition into Limveld is unique. Enemy placement, terrain layouts, resource locations, and random events—from meteor strikes to volcanic eruptions—will all shift with each playthrough, creating a fresh challenge every time.

 

The “Night's Tide” mechanic gradually shrinks the playable zone, forcing players to push forward strategically. Navigation, combat decisions, and resource management become increasingly intense as the darkness closes in.

 

Eight Nightfarers: Diverse Playstyles, Unique Abilities

The expansion introduces eight playable Nightfarers, each with a distinct combat style and ultimate ability. The trailer showcases six of them:

 

Wylder – A melee knight equipped with a grappling hook for rapid gap-closing or ranged explosive nail throws.

Guardian – A shield-bearing frontline tank who can unleash a sweeping Whirlwind and cast the ultimate “Wings of Salvation” to revive downed allies with a magic circle.

Ironeye – A long-range archer who marks enemy weak points and uses the “Marking skill” ultimate to strike through obstacles and armor.

Duchess – A nimble fighter adept in confusing, capable of hides her and nearby allies from enemy sight.

Raider – A resilient sea-farer who summons totems for both offense and defense, while providing buffs to the team.

Recluse – A master of ancient elemental magic, able to absorb ambient energies to unleash powerful curses and heal teammates' health and mana.

 

Two other Nightfarers were also revealed in the Overview Trailer, but their names were revealed in a promotional image that displayed merchandise of the upcoming title. These classes are the Executor and Revenant.

 

The abilities of the final two Nightfarers remain hidden and are expected to be discovered in-game through the collection of Memory Shards.

 

 

Roundtable Bastion: Upgrades, Customization & Forgotten Histories

Between expeditions, players can return to the Roundtable Base, a central hub for upgrades, customization, and narrative progression.

 

Using “Murk” currency earned in the battle, players can trade with merchants for relics, skill modules, and cosmetic items.

 

The fitting mirror allows for outfit swapping and style customization—some cosmetics pay homage to iconic characters from the Souls series.

The expansion's climax unfolds on the Third Night, when the mythical Lord of Nightmares descends upon the battlefield. Teased in the trailer's final moments, this towering figure exudes an oppressive aura and represents the apocalyptic force behind Limveld's destruction.

 

Only by mastering powerful abilities, acquiring specific anti-Nightmare tools, and coordinating with fellow Nightfarers can players hope to survive the coming onslaught and end the dark reign that threatens the realm.

 

Elden Ring Nightreign is scheduled for releasing in May 30, 2025, across PS5、Xbox Series X|S、PC、PS4 and Xbox One platforms, supporting both solo and co-op modes.
