How to Convert LoD Characters to Reign of the Warlock

Diablo II: Resurrected players who want to transfer existing Online Lord of Destruction (LoD) Expansion characters to Reign of the Warlock (RotW) must do so by November 16, 2026. This deadline applies to both Ladder and Non-Ladder characters.

LoD is not shutting down. Existing characters can still be played in the original LoD environment, but they cannot be converted to RotW after the deadline.

Before converting, move any items you want to keep from your Expansion Shared Stash into the character’s personal stash or inventory. Shared Stash contents do not transfer automatically.

D2R LoD to RotW Character Conversion Guide

D2R Character Conversion Deadline

Starting November 16, 2026, existing Online LoD Expansion characters will no longer be convertible to Reign of the Warlock. This affects:

  • Online LoD Ladder: Existing Expansion Ladder characters.
  • Online LoD Non-Ladder: Existing Expansion Non-Ladder characters.

Offline character conversions and Classic-to-Expansion conversions remain available. The restriction is specifically about moving existing Online LoD Expansion characters into RotW.

The timing is close to the seasonal transition: Ladder Season 15 ends on November 9 at 11:00 a.m. PST, and Season 16 begins on November 13 at 5:00 p.m. PST. However, the character conversion cutoff is a separate date: November 16.

What to Check Before Converting an LoD Character

Choose which Online LoD characters you want to continue using in Reign of the Warlock. You do not have to convert every character, so prioritize those with completed builds, valuable equipment, or progression you want to keep.

Treat conversion as a one-way move. Once a character has been converted to RotW, do not expect to move it back to the original LoD environment. Make sure you have selected the right character before proceeding.

Also check the character’s equipment, inventory, and personal stash. Items stored in the Expansion Shared Stash require special attention because that stash does not transfer with the character.

How to Move Shared Stash Items to Reign of the Warlock

Blizzard confirms that the Expansion Shared Stash does not transfer automatically when a character is converted. To keep your items, move them into the personal stash or inventory of the character being transferred.

Prioritize valuable Runes, Unique and Set items, Charms, Jewels, Runeword bases, and crafting materials. If one character cannot carry everything, use additional LoD characters as mules to store different groups of items.

Once everything is ready, convert each character from the character selection screen. Repeat the process for every character you want to move to Reign of the Warlock.

What If You Already Converted All Your LoD Characters?

You can still retrieve items left in the Expansion Shared Stash.

Blizzard’s instructions explain that if you convert all your characters before moving the items, the remaining Shared Stash contents are still there. Create a new Expansion character, access the old Shared Stash, and move the items you want to keep into that character’s personal stash or inventory. You can then convert the new character to RotW.

This gives you a recovery option if you have already converted your original characters. However, moving your items before conversion is the simpler approach and helps prevent valuable equipment from being overlooked.

Do Patch 3.4 Item Changes Affect LoD Equipment?

No. The item changes listed in the Patch 3.4 notes apply to Reign of the Warlock, not the original LoD environment.

Some Unique and Set item updates are limited to RotW Online Ladder and Offline modes, while certain previously Ladder-only items become available in RotW Online Non-Ladder. Blizzard explicitly states that these changes do not apply to Classic or LoD.

Your existing LoD equipment does not become invalid because of these updates. You can continue using it in the original LoD environment.

Will LoD Still Be Playable After November 16?

Yes. The conversion deadline does not shut down the original LoD environment or delete existing Online LoD characters.

You can continue playing your existing characters in LoD without converting them. The restriction only closes the option to transfer eligible Online LoD Expansion characters into Reign of the Warlock after November 16.

If you are also preparing for the end of Ladder Season 15, see our D2R Ladder character and stash guide for details about the seasonal stash transition.

Before the November 16 Deadline

If you plan to move your Online LoD characters to Reign of the Warlock, make sure you have:

  • Selected the characters you want to convert.
  • Checked their equipment, inventory, and personal stashes.
  • Moved wanted items out of the Expansion Shared Stash.
  • Used mule characters if you need additional storage.
  • Completed the conversions before November 16, 2026.

The November 16 cutoff applies to Online LoD character conversion, not continued access to LoD. Decide which characters you want to move and organize their items before completing the transfer.
