D2R Season 16: Reworked Eternity Runeword – New Affixes, Top Builds & Ladder Reset Farming

category:Diablo 2: Resurrected

Nov-05-2026     Source: MMOSO

The completely reworked Eternity runeword is one of the biggest talking points of Diablo 2: Resurrected Season 16. Once considered a near-useless Holy Grail item, it now competes with Grief and Breath of the Dying on many melee and bow builds.

Season 16 launches on November 13, 2026. This guide breaks down the new affixes, the strongest builds that use it, and a practical way to assemble the runeword after the ladder resets.

Version Note: The Patch 3.4 Eternity changes apply to Reign of the Warlock Online Ladder and Offline modes. Online Non-Ladder and the original Lord of Destruction version keep the old stats.

D2R Season 16 Reworked Eternity Runeword Guide & Best Uses

Why Eternity Is a Major Update in Patch 3.4

Before Patch 3.4, almost no one made Eternity. It had no attack speed, mediocre damage (260–310% enhanced damage), and a limited charge-based Revive. Grief, Breath of the Dying, and Death were simply better in almost every way.

Patch 3.4 changes that. Eternity can now be made in both melee and missile weapons, gains significant damage and attack speed, and replaces the old charge-based Revive with a permanent +5 Revive oskill. This gives every class permanent access to Revive without relying on limited charges.

New Eternity Affixes (Season 16)

The rune recipe has not changed: Amn + Ber + Ist + Sol + Sur in a 5-socket weapon.

Full Stat List

  • Indestructible
  • +30% Increased Attack Speed
  • +300–390% Enhanced Damage
  • +9 to Minimum Damage
  • +3–297 to Maximum Damage (Based on Character Level)
  • 20% Chance of Crushing Blow
  • Hit Blinds Target
  • Slows Target by 33%
  • Replenish Life +16
  • Regenerate Mana 16%
  • Cannot Be Frozen
  • 7% Life Stolen Per Hit
  • +5 to Revive (Oskill)
  • 30% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items

Damage Potential

On a perfect ethereal Berserker Axe at level 99, Eternity reaches roughly 190–832 damage (average ~511). Against non-demon monsters, this can compete with or outperform a perfect ethereal Grief depending on the situation. On large two-handed bases (ethereal Colossus Blade or Caduceus), top-end damage can exceed 1,200.

The Revive Oskill

The old version used limited charges (Level 8 Revive with 88 charges). The new +5 Revive oskill is always active. Revived monsters gain +200% life and last 180 seconds. Every class can now maintain a minion army simply by equipping the weapon.

Recommended Weapon Bases

Base Weapon Best Use
Berserker Axe Strong one-hand melee option
Colossus Blade Highest potential two-hand damage
Caduceus Excellent for Zeal Paladin
Matriarchal Bow / Grand Matron Bow Strong Bowazon option (especially with +3 skills)
Man Catcher Very fast spear; previously hard to use with other high-end runewords
Phase Blade Valid base, but generally less attractive for physical damage builds because it cannot be ethereal and misses the extra base damage

Top Builds That Benefit From Reworked Eternity

Frenzy Barbarian with Revive Army

Dual-wielding two Eternities gives +10 to Revive from the weapons alone. Additional +skills gear (such as a +2 Barbarian amulet, Nightwing’s Veil, Arachnid Mesh, and Battle Command from Call to Arms on swap) can further increase the number of active revived minions. A Frenzy Barb using well-rolled Eternity Berserker Axes deals very high physical damage before aura bonuses.

Fury Werewolf Druid

Eternity on a two-hand base can push maximum damage past 1,300. Cannot Be Frozen frees up a ring slot. Pairing it with Beast on swap (for Fanaticism) is a strong alternative to the traditional Grief + Beast setup against non-demon targets.

Strafe / Multishot Bowazon

Eternity in a Matriarchal Bow is one of the headline Season 16 builds. At high levels, a well-rolled version can deliver competitive or higher damage than Windforce on Guided Arrow, depending on gear. Cannot Be Frozen removes the need for Raven Frost, freeing a ring slot for options such as Wisp Projector or a dual-leech ring. Highlord’s Wrath remains a strong amulet choice for its Increased Attack Speed and Deadly Strike.

Gore Rider’s 15% Deadly Strike and level 99 Highlord’s Wrath’s 37% Deadly Strike provide a combined 52% chance before accounting for any other sources.

Note: Hit Blinds Target conflicts with Atma’s Scarab’s Amplify Damage proc. Choose one.

Zeal Paladin

Strong alternative to Grief against non-demon enemies. The built-in 20% Crushing Blow is useful. Can be paired with Last Wish on swap or used as a two-hand Zealer with revived minions.

Enchant Sorceress

Eternity Grand Matron Bow + pierce gear creates a hybrid caster-archer. Revived minions can inherit Enchant fire damage. Teleport makes repositioning the army easy. This is a niche but interesting synergy.

Blood Boil Warlock

Blood Boil creates Corpse Explosion-style detonations on your own minions. Combined with a large number of revived monsters from Eternity, this has the potential for strong screen-clearing. This is an experimental hybrid worth testing.

Aura-Stacking Paladin

Eternity + Pride mercenary + Bramble armor can stack Concentration, Might, and Thorns on revived minions. The exact damage increase depends on aura levels and gear.

What Eternity Does Not Replace

Grief still holds advantages against demons (especially with Laying of Hands) and has Ignore Target Defense. Death remains better for pure Crushing Blow + Deadly Strike setups. Last Wish keeps its unique Might aura niche. Eternity is strongest against non-demon monsters.

How to Farm and Craft Eternity on Season 16 Launch

You need Amn + Ber + Ist + Sol + Sur. Ber and Sur are the bottlenecks. The other three runes are relatively easy to obtain or cube.

Rune Rarity Common Sources
Amn Common Countess, Hellforge, Travincal
Ber High Rune Travincal, Chaos Sanctuary, Terror Zones
Ist Mid-High Countess, Travincal, Lower Kurast
Sol Common Countess, Hellforge
Sur High Rune Travincal, Chaos Sanctuary, Terror Zones

Most players will need to farm or trade for Ber and Sur. Checking current D2R runes availability can help.

Best Early Ladder Farm: Travincal Find Item Barbarian

The Council members in Travincal are boss-rank and have elevated high-rune drop rates. A Find Item (Hork) Barbarian can loot each corpse a second time.

Why Travincal is strong at ladder start:

  • Fast runs (30 seconds to 1.5 minutes)
  • Close to waypoint
  • Boss drop table (Ber, Sur, Jah, Cham, Zod, Lo possible)
  • Find Item increases total loot opportunities
  • Good trade value even on dry rune streaks (Ist, gems, charms, bases)

Starter Gear Recommendations

  • Weapon: +3 War Cry wand from Malah, or Blade of Ali Baba with Ist
  • Helm: Peasant Crown or +2 Barbarian circlet with MF
  • Armor: Smoke or Treachery early; Enigma later
  • Shield: Rhyme (for Cannot Be Frozen)
  • Gloves: Chance Guards
  • Boots: War Traveler
  • Belt: Goldwrap or Tal Rasha’s Fine-Spun Cloth
  • Rings: Nagelring, Manald Heal, or dual leech

Important: Avoid cold damage. Shattered corpses cannot be Horked.

Skill Priority (Realistic Find Item Setup)

  • 20 points into Find Item (base chance around 51% at level 20)
  • Invest hard points into Find Potion for its synergy (+1% Find Item chance per hard point)
  • Use +skills gear to further improve the effective Find Item level
  • 20 points into Berserk
  • 20 points into Weapon Mastery
  • Utility points into Battle Orders, War Cry, Battle Command, Shout, Leap, etc.

Note: Reaching ~70–75% Find Item chance typically requires a combination of high Find Item level, significant Find Potion hard points, and +skills gear. It is not achieved by 20 points in Find Item alone.

Realistic Approach

  • Early Ladder: Level your Barbarian, complete Hell, and prepare a functional Travincal setup.
  • Farming Phase: Farm Council members and use Find Item to increase your total loot opportunities. Ber and Sur drops remain highly RNG-dependent.
  • Trading Phase: Trade useful drops, gems, charms, and other valuable items toward Ber and Sur.

While farming runes, look for a good 5-socket base (ethereal Berserker Axe, Colossus Blade, superior Matriarchal Bow, etc.). High-quality bases are frequently traded as D2R items.

Final Thoughts

The reworked Eternity is the most significant melee and bow weapon change in Season 16. Its combination of high damage, attack speed, and permanent +5 Revive oskill makes it competitive with Grief and Breath of the Dying on many builds, especially against non-demon targets.

A Find Item Barbarian at ladder start is a practical way to pursue Ber and Sur through Travincal farming and trading. Players who secure Eternity early will have a strong tool for the new season. If you want to finish the runeword more quickly, monitoring D2R runes and D2R runewords markets is often more efficient than pure self-farming.
