Music is central to the Animal Crossing experience, and Nintendo should make the New Horizons’ soundtrack a multinational release.
When players begin an Animal Crossing title for the first time, they are usually greeted by K.K. Slider, a renowned dog guitarist, and vocalist in the games’ fiction. An Animal Crossing: New Horizons soundtrack has been announced for release, and is currently only confirmed for a release in Japan. However, Nintendo should expand this to include other regions.
The Animal Crossing: New Horizons soundtrack is being released in three versions. The first is a collection of the game’s background music, with tracks played at specific weather and time combinations, as well as event-related songs played on holidays like Thanksgiving Day and at tournaments. The second is a collection of K.K. Slider songs, which could be the most exciting release of an album from a fictional musical act since Spinal Tap or Metalocalypse, for New Horizons fans.
For now, these Animal Crossing: New Horizons albums are set to release solely in Japan, and only in physical audio CD format. Nintendo has moved toward embracing digital products sold outside of their in-house ecosystem, as mobile game releases have shown.
