MMOSO WotLK Classic Shadowmourne: How to get the Legendary Axe?

Everyone should know that Legendaries are an iconic part of World of Warcraft. Being able to wield very powerful weapons or wear powerful armor, with a unique set of abilities that go beyond stats, is a sign not only of strength but also of devotion.

Most of the time, with the exception of Warglaives of Azzinoth in TBC, legends take a lot of time and effort. This can be evidenced with Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker and Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros in vanilla World of Warcraft.

The same goes for one of the game's most iconic weapons, Shadowmourne, for the WotLK Classic.

How to get Shadowmourne?

Before we get into the guide, here's some background on when to try and get Shadowmourne. As with the other Legendaries mentioned above, obtaining Shadowmourne will take a few weeks. Also, in addition to weapons, you will also be rewarded with cosmetic items that you can sell to other players.

1. Getting Friendly with the Ashen Verdict

In order to be eligible for Shadowmourne, you first have to be friendly with Verdict of Ashes, as that reputation level will make the initial quest available.

It's fairly easy to form a friendly relationship with Verdict of the Ashes, all you have to do is clear out the junk in Icecrown Citadel until the first leader of the team, Lord Marogar...many times. Go in, clear the trash, go out, reset, rinse and repeat.

Luckily, players will be clamoring for reputation once Icecrown Citadel is released, due to the other benefits that Ashen Verdict reputation provides.

2. The Sacred and the Corrupt

Once you've done all the rep grind, you can finally move on to the long quest line. First, you'll head to Highlord Mograine, located to the right of the entrance to Icecrown Citadel.

This quest will let you collect various items.

25 Primal Saronite

Can be purchased at the auction house

Purchased from quartermasters in Dalaran and Icecrown Citadel for various prices

Retrieve Light's Vengeance from a cave in Dragonblight (coordinates 74,24)

Kill Festergut and loot Festergut's Acidic Blood

Kill Rotface and loot Rotface's Acidic Blood

Once you have all these items, you can return to Highlord Mograine, turn in the quest and get the Shadowblade.

3. A Feast of Souls

Now that you've completed the first quest of the quest chain and acquired the Shadowmourne weapon component, you need to feed the weapon some souls, 50 in total.

Just kill 50 minions of the Lich King to do this. These can be bosses or trash, which means if you're ready for more Ashen Verdict grinds, you'll be done in no time.

With the soul-fed Shadowblade, it's time for the hardest part of the questline - infusion.

4. Unholy Infusion

The first is Evil Infusion, which is tasked with not only killing Professor Putricide, but also injecting some of his slime into your weapon.

The way to do this is fairly simple, start meeting up with Professor Putricide at 25 and run the whole move until he's at exactly 80% health. From there, wait for Putricide to spawn three slime puddles, then walk to his table and drink the concoction that turns you into an abomination.

Beyond that, you'll want the boss to be below 80% as it triggers phase 2, and hopefully become a full abomination. Once turned into an abomination, you will have several skills to press your action bar, in order to complete this task, you will focus on the first and fourth skills.

Using the first skill, you'll walk up to the slimes and eat them until the bar on your right is filled. After that, tap on the fourth skill, and it will infuse your Shadowblade with evil power, and that's it.

5. Blood Infusion

The second is a blood transfusion, where you not only kill the blood queen Lanather, but also inject some of her blood into your weapon.

The goal of this quest is to bite three different people with the boss's vampire, then kill the boss. This can be a tricky process, but if done right, the task will be completed quickly.

First, you must be bitten by Blood Queen Ranather herself or another player. Once bitten, you can bite another player of your choice (or the raid leader's choice), and from there, the debuff will have to come back to you again. After that, rinse and repeat until you have spread the debuff a total of 3 times.

6. Frost Infusion

A third and perhaps easier infusion is Frost Infusion, where Sindragosa must cast her Frost Breath ability on you four times.

Pretty simple, just stand up, don't dodge her abilities, and kill Sindragosa. Of course, make sure you don't die in the process.

7. The Splintered Throne

Now that you've done all the infusions, perhaps the hardest and most time-consuming part of the questline, collect 50 Shadowfrost Fragments and earn your Shadowmourne.

Killing a boss will drop a Shadowfrost Shard, but it's not guaranteed, plus with a total of 13 bosses in the raid, this will take a while. As always, if possible, make sure to complete raids in 25-player hero mode, as the difficulty increases will improve your chances of dropping the number of shards per week.

Shadow's Edge turns into Shadowmourne after completing the quest and turning it in.

8. The Lich King's Last Stand

Last but not least, defeat the Lich King for some extra goodies while in Shadowmourne. After knocking him down, he will drop a sealed crate that can be given to the Highlord Mograine and he will give you an unsealed crate as a reward.

This unsealed chest contains five items, and when you hand them over to their respective owners, you'll get several items and a mount.
