Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5: Echoes of Aldur is now live, bringing a major Expedition overhaul, Liquid Verisium, improved Grand Expedition rewards, and endgame balance changes. This guide breaks down the biggest gameplay updates, three community-tested budget builds, and the best progression paths for new and SSF players.

Comprehensive Overhaul of Expedition Mechanics

Patch 0.5 retains Expedition’s core loop of explosive excavation and remnant modifier propagation, integrating standard Expeditions, Grand Expeditions and Runic Remnants into an independent endgame farming system. Players may adjust encounter difficulty according to their build strength.

1. Core Gameplay Changes & Grand Expedition Improvements

Expeditions still begin through Maps and Logbooks, with Remnant modifiers affecting monsters and chests uncovered by later explosions. Patch 0.5 fixes Power Rune propagation, making Remnant combinations more reliable and rewarding.

Grand Expeditions have also received major improvements. Ocean Biome locations are now clearly marked on the Atlas and feature 1–2 exclusive Expedition modifiers by default, including additional Runic Monsters, duplicated Runic packs, and extra buried Remnants. Verisium Sentries further increase encounter difficulty while improving overall loot quality, making Grand Expedition one of the most rewarding endgame farming activities.

2. New Currency: Liquid Verisium

Upon completing relevant progression milestones, Farrow the Expedition NPC sells Liquid Verisium in towns and hideouts in exchange for raw Verisium. Consuming it instantly triggers a random Runic Remnant encounter with a fresh set of inscriptions, eliminating the need to repeatedly farm maps for desirable runes. Results are completely random with no preview window.

3. Three-Tiered Expedition Reward Progression

  • Early Game: Standard map Expeditions and low-affix Logbooks. Drops basic Verisium and generic rares with low survival pressure, perfect for new players to accumulate starting currency.
  • Mid Game: Grand Expeditions with 1–2 modifiers. Reliably yields Liquid Verisium, extra Remnants and Logbooks, and can be farmed endlessly with a functional build.
  • Endgame: High-density Grand Expeditions stacked with full affixes alongside pinnacle boss content. Potential drops include Divine Orbs, top-tier uniques and elite runic bases; overall earnings fluctuate based on server market prices.

Three Community-Tested Budget Builds

Based on popular builds from Maxroll and Mobalytics, these three budget-friendly setups can comfortably clear the campaign, T15 maps, and Expedition content with little or no reliance on unique items.

Twister Spirit Walker

Twister Spirit Walker uses a dual-spear setup, combining Whirling Slash, Twister, and Ice-Tipped Arrows for fast map clearing and reliable crowd control. It performs well with mostly rare gear, making it an excellent choice for Expedition farming and league starters.

Ice Shot Deadeye

Level with Lightning Arrow before switching to Ice Shot in the mid-game. Strong projectile scaling, high mobility, and excellent screen-wide clear make this one of the most reliable budget mapping builds. Only regular weapon upgrades are needed, while unique items remain optional.

Pin Grenade Tactician

A strong choice for SSF and Hardcore players, this build uses Flash, Gas, and Explosive Grenades to control and eliminate enemies safely. High Armour, Deflect, and low gear requirements allow it to complete endgame content using mostly rare equipment.

Universal Gamewide System Revisions

1. Level-Scaling Unique Items

Skill-bearing unique items dynamically adjust skill levels to match the player’s level, letting low-level alts wield powerful unique bases early. Several uniques have raised minimum level requirements; legacy versions can be rerolled with Divine Orbs to comply with the new scaling rules, drastically cutting alt-leveling time.

2. New Currency & Exclusive Unique Equipment

  • Orb of Sacrifice: Drops from Atziri’s treasure vault. When used on corrupted gear, it randomly removes one explicit modifier while upgrading the tier of its Corrupted Enchantment. It is only recommended for corrupted items with a single useless suffix; applying it to double-corrupted gear carries severe risks and should never be used on fully optimized endgame gear.
  • The Master's Reach : Drops from the fully empowered Vessel of Kulemak pinnacle fight (all three Lich overlords must buff the boss before defeat). It grants the Untether skill for massive AoE physical burst, restores life and boosts skill speed upon hitting rare and legendary enemy weaknesses, making it a staple endgame farming unique.

3. Pinnacle Boss Nerfs

GGG reduced elemental resistances across all pinnacle bosses, delivering noticeably higher damage output with identical gear loadouts. The Arbiter of Ash receives targeted nerfs: reduced chaos damage bonus from chaos orbs, and buff duration from chaos/frost orbs cut from 30 seconds to 20 seconds. Burning ground damage from the Vessel of Kulemak has also been toned down. All three budget builds can reliably defeat every endgame pinnacle encounter.

4. Extensive Quality-of-Life Improvements

Holding Alt displays the total stack count of currency and fragments across inventory and trade windows; a toggle has been added to hide the death screen UI; controller trade marketplace interfaces have been fully reworked; Thaumaturgic Fluxes are grouped under a dedicated Flux tab in the currency exchange and count toward Artisan challenges. Corrupted and Sanctified items can no longer socket nine types of Expedition Remnant Augments, eliminating permanently unmodifiable useless gear rolls.

Progression Roadmaps for Different Playstyles

  1. New Players: Choose either the Pin Grenade Tactician or Twister Spirit Walker for the campaign. Cap all elemental resistances and equip higher-damage weapons as you progress. Prioritize Grand Expeditions to gather runic crafting materials, avoid stacking high-risk map modifiers early, and scale build power gradually.
  2. Loot Farmers: Focus on looping Ocean Biome Grand Expeditions with Logbooks. Prioritize clearing speed and boss damage before tackling high-affix encounters. Spend raw Verisium on Liquid Verisium to reroll unsatisfactory runic inscriptions, and track hourly currency gains to measure farming efficiency.
  3. SSF Players: The Pin Grenade Tactician is the optimal pick thanks to its built-in crowd control and low gear dependency, perfect for trade-free gameplay. Leverage level-scaling uniques to quickly gear alternate farming characters. Expedition self-sustains all Verisium and Remnant supplies, insulating progression from volatile market prices.

Final Tips

Patch 0.5 makes Expedition one of the best endgame activities by improving rewards, expanding Rune progression, and introducing new systems like Liquid Verisium. Combined with several community-tested budget builds and easier pinnacle boss encounters, the update offers a smoother path into endgame for both new and experienced players.

Whether you're farming currency, pushing high-tier maps, or playing SSF, Patch 0.5 provides a solid foundation for progressing through the Echoes of Aldur endgame.
