Do you need a Merchant's Tab when the Currency Exchange handles orbs? Is the Currency Stash Tab still the first buy in Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5?
Path of Exile 2 starts you with four stash tabs. Runes of Aldur drops fill them fast. Wrong tab order wastes points before you reach Atlas.
Prices use shop list price (Was) and typical sale price (On Sale). Check both in-game before you buy.

Return of the Ancients reworked the Augment Stash Tab. Runes, Kalguuran Runes, Soul Cores, Idols, and Ancient Augments each get labeled sections.
Patch 0.5 also added the Fragment Stash Tab. It stores fragments, tablets, and Trial of Ascendancy keys.
Stackable currency uses the in-game Currency Exchange. Non-stackable gear sells through Merchant's Tabs and Ange in your hideout. Premium Tabs still list on the official trade site.
SSF characters cannot use Merchant tabs or the exchange.
Account stash tabs still carry between Path of Exile 1 and Path of Exile 2 when that tab type exists in both games.
| Tab | Was / Sale | Best For |
| Currency Stash Tab | 75 / 60 pts | All trade-league players; first tab for storage and in-tab crafting |
| Merchant's Tab | 40 pts | Async sellers listing gear while offline or mapping |
| Premium Stash Tab | 40 / 30 pts | Trade-site listings plus a large dump tab for unsorted loot |
| Augment Stash Tab | 50 / 40 pts | Runecrafters and socket-heavy builds once runes overflow |
| Map Stash Tab | 150 / 120 pts | Atlas farmers once Waystones fill a generic tab |
| Fragment Stash Tab | 75 / 55 pts | Fragment and tablet farmers after one Premium tab overflows |
| Premium Quad Tab | 150 / 120 pts | High-volume sellers who need dump space and public listings |
| Gem / Essence / Flask / Delirium | 40 / 30 pts | Players who hoard that item type every session |
Was / Sale = list price and typical stash-weekend sale price.
The table ranks Currency first for storage — not because the exchange replaces it.
You get labeled slots for each currency type. A center slot lets you craft without moving orbs to inventory. Wildcard slots hold odd stackables.
The Currency Exchange liquidates stacks quickly. It does not show your full wealth when you plan the next craft.
These three systems overlap in name only. Match each item type to one lane.
Built for stackable currency. Buyers do not need a Merchant's Tab. Sellers move chaos, exalts, and similar stacks here instead of public gear tabs.
Costs 40 points, or 30 on sale. Mark the tab public, price items, and list on the official trade site. Best for whisper trades, live responses, or one large dump tab that can also sell gear.
Costs 40 points. List gear in your hideout shop for async sales. Buyers purchase while you map or log off. Earnings collect through Ange. Gear and uniques go here — not currency.
Only Premium Stash Tabs bought before The Third Edict (0.3.0) can convert to Merchant tabs on the website account page. Later Premium purchases must be bought as Merchant tabs in the shop.
After conversion, the old Premium tab in Path of Exile 1 becomes remove-only storage — you can withdraw items but cannot deposit new ones until Merchant tabs reach PoE1.
Premium Quad Tabs cannot use the current free conversion.
Async sellers start with Merchant. Trade-site players who need dump space start with Premium. Add the second tab only when listing volume grows.
Runes drop often in patch 0.5 endgame. Dedicated slots stop rune piles from mixing with sales tabs or crafting currency.
Socket or runecraft every session and you will notice the gap within a few mapping days. Barely touch augments and a sorted Premium tab holds you longer.
Tablets, breach splinters, and ascendancy keys land in one home. Buy when one Premium page cannot hold the pile — not on league day one by default.
Per-tier Waystone sections with large capacity. Turn on Waystone affinity so maps route there automatically. Skip this in campaign — buy once Atlas is your default session.
Four premium-sized spaces with listing tools. Items display smaller, which helps bulk dumps but hurts targeted searches. Prove you need one Premium tab before spending on Quad.
Pain-based buys only. Match the tab to loot that already slowed you twice in one week — not to a sale banner alone.
Starter spend: one row from the table plus relabeled defaults. Add Map, Augment, or Fragment when your stash matches that row. Long-term traders layer Quad and farm-specific tabs last.
Relabel your four default tabs first — currency dump, sell pile, maps-in-progress, unsorted rares. That free step shows which table row matches your real pain. You avoid buying Augment when Map was the bottleneck.
Sorted tabs save time. They do not shorten mapping. When seed currency — not storage — blocks your next craft or upgrade, some players pick up Path of Exile 2 currency through MMOSO to test a build without another week of low-tier sales.
