How many high runes can the Countess in D2R drop? Increasing her rune drop only requires one step.

Dec-14-2023

For players who have played Diablo II: Resurrected, the name Countess is not unfamiliar. The first contact with her is in the Forgotten Tower of the 4th quest in Act 1, and in the early stages, players usually kill her multiple times to farm low-level runes. In Hell difficulty, the main reason for farming the Countess is to obtain one of the three keys required to access the 6 boss.

The Countess is different from other unique monsters, as she not only drops regular items but also has additional rune drops. Below is a brief introduction to the relationship between the Countess's item drops and her rune drops.

(1) Items drops take priority over additional rune drops. In D2R, the maximum number of items dropped by a monster is 6. If the number of items dropped by a monster exceeds 6 during the roll, only the first 6 items will actually drop. When killing the Countess, her item drops are calculated first. If the number of item drops is greater than or equal to 6, all of them will be item drops, and the number of additional rune drops will be considered as 0. Therefore, the fewer item drops, the higher the chance of additional rune drops.

(2) Monster item drops can be divided into drops and non-drops. The more players in the room (meaning more players present), the higher the probability of non-drops. If you want to increase the Countess's rune drop rate, try to increase the non-drop rate of equipment drops. In other words, having fewer people in the room makes it easier to get runes. Therefore, the probability of additional rune drops is highest when soloing the Countess.

(3) The maximum runes that the Countess can drop in Normal, Nightmare, and Hell difficulties are #8, #18, and #28, respectively. The maximum runes that can be dropped as additional rune drops in the three difficulties are #8, #16, and #24, respectively. Therefore, if the Countess drops a rune above #24, it belongs to the normal items drop part.

(4) In Hell difficulty, the Countess can drop up to Rune #28, but the area she is in is level 79, and the surrounding small monsters and elites can drop all runes, including #33. This is why many players sometimes find runes higher than #28 when farming the Countess.
