Diablo 2 Resurrected: How To Effectively Farm Mephisto Boss?

Mephisto is the final boss of Act 3 in Diablo 2 Resurrected, defeat him to get to Act 4. On top of that, he drops some very powerful gear that will help you out a lot in Act 4 and onwards. In this guide, you'll know Mephisto's location, attack skills, farm strategy, and dropped d2r items.

1. Mephisto Location

You can find Mephisto at the very end of Act 3, at the top left of the Durance of Hate Level 3, the most efficient way to reach this location is to use the Durance of Hate Level 2 Waypoint and run clockwise.

For players with a deep understanding of maps, they will go to the Waypoint tile and start going left from there.

While running through the Durance of Hate Level 2, make sure to be on the lookout for the Stygian Dolls. These dolls blow up when you kill them, dealing a large amount of damage.

2. What Is a Mephisto Run?

A Mephisto run is a kill of Mephisto, one of the best bosses in the game for farming decent gear for your characters. With a Waypoint close to him, a very good loot table, and the ability to cheese him, most characters will find themselves killing Mephisto over and over again to farm most of their optimal gear before moving on to the hardest areas of the game.

3. Mephisto Attack Skills

Mephisto is relatively easy to deal with compared to his two brothers, and although he has a wide variety of attacks, most of them belong to the various skills of Sorceress:

Charged Bolt

Frost Nova

He also has two special skills:

Skull Missile, which fires a compact ball at the player and deals cold damage

Poison Nova, which expands a cloud of poison from his current position. It is not the same as the Necromancer skill, however, as it expands much more slowly.

Mephisto will tend to use Lightning and his Skull Missile most often, along with the Charged Bolts less frequently. He throws off the Frost Nova and Poison Nova if the player gets close, while he very rarely uses Blizzard.

4. Farm Mephisto Strategy & Tips

Since Mephisto is known for having extremely powerful cold and lightning attacks, it is very important that your character has high lightning and cold resistances when you are preparing to fight him. In addition, Mephisto can deal insane damage, so it's also crucial to increase your character's resistance before entering.

One of his deadliest attacks is the Charged Bolt because if your character gets close to him, many of the  Bolts will hit you instantly and shotgun your character down. One way to avoid this terrible situation is cheese Mephisto. This can be done in several places on the map, the main idea is to get out of his reach and get him stuck behind some landscapes.

The easiest place to do this is the moat in the middle of the map. By dragging Mephisto to one side of it, then teleporting quickly or running to the other side, he'll bug out and move back and forth, while you can cast various abilities to kill him. This is great for Sorceress with Meteor, Blizzard, Lightning, and more.

So, the sorceress can be said to be the expert Mephisto hunter. Although the "moat trick" is useful, it is not necessary. Once you have a mercenary that can survive long enough for you to kill Mephisto, it can just give up because there’s less chance you’ll be attacked by other monsters on the level if you just teleport up to Mephisto and engage him on the northern end of the level.

Once Mephisto is dead, don't forget to check the armor racks on either side above the side room, and also loot the chest directly above where Mephisto appeared, this is a Super Chest, when opened, which may drop a large number of rare d2r ladder items and high runes.

In conclusion, the best way to kill Mephisto is to use ranged attack characters rather than melee characters. So, characters like Sorceress, Bone Necromancer, and Bowazan will be your best bet. If you are a melee character, as Mephisto is not resistant to physical damage, melee characters like barbarians and amazons can beat him quickly.

In short, the best way to kill Mephisto is to use long-range attacks rather than melee characters. Therefore, characters like witch, necromancer, and Bozan will be your best choice. If you are a melee character, because Mephisto has no resistance to physical damage, melee characters like Barbarian and Amazon can quickly defeat him.
