If you are still playing Diablo 2: Resurrected Season 13 like it's Season 12—just mindlessly clearing Terror Zones hoping for a Sunder Charm to drop—you are going to be very disappointed.

With the S13 patch, Sunder Charms have been completely reworked. They no longer drop from normal Terror Zone monsters. The only source is Heralds. Combine that with Wide Terrorization to dramatically boost your efficiency. Let me walk you through exactly how it works.

Why Season 13 Sunder Charms Are Different From Previous Seasons

In previous seasons, you could kill any elite in a Terror Zone for a chance at a Sunder Charm. Not anymore.

Regular Terror Zone mobs don't drop them. Normal mobs, elite packs, and even Act Bosses inside Terror Zones no longer drop Sunder Charms in Season 13. The only source is a new type of enemy called Heralds.

There are also two tiers of Sunder Charms now:

Latent Sunder: This is the "old" version. The drop rate is extremely low, and the stats are fixed to the worst possible negative resistance (for example, -90% to a specific element). By itself, it's actually pretty bad.

Renewed Sunder: This is the real Season 13 endgame goal. You upgrade a Latent Sunder using runes and Worldstone Shards. Renewed Sunders have half the negative resistance (around -45%) and roll with bonus stats like +5-15% Elemental Damage or -X% Enemy Resistance.

The bottom line? Stop looking for Baal. Start looking for Heralds.

 

How To Spawn Heralds In Terror Zones (Step By Step)

Heralds are super-unique elites, similar to Uber Diablo but specifically for Terror Zones. Knowing how to spawn them is the key to farming Sunder Charms efficiently in Season 13.

Difficulty: Hell difficulty only. You must have killed Hell Baal first.

Location: Heralds do not spawn anywhere else. You must be inside the active Terror Zone. 

The trigger: Kill unique monsters, champion packs, or super-uniques inside the Terror Zone. Each kill has roughly a 2% chance to trigger a server message that says: "You draw the ire of a Herald."

The spawn: A few seconds after that message appears, the Herald will spawn with its minions roughly two screens away from you and rush toward your position.

Herald levels: Heralds can spawn at levels 1 through 5. The more elites you kill in the same game session, the higher the level of the next Herald that spawns. A level 5 Herald has a significantly higher drop rate (up to 4 times higher than a level 1 Herald) and can drop up to 4 items at once.

So your goal isn't just to spawn Heralds. It's to spawn high-level Heralds by killing as many elites as possible before they appear.

 

The "Wide Terrorization" Strategy: Using Worldstone Shards

What are Worldstone Shards and How to Use Them?

Worldstone Shards drop randomly from any monster inside a Terror Zone. The drop rate is low, but they do drop. And most players have no idea what to do with them.

When you're inside a Terror Zone, right-click a Worldstone Shard in your inventory. This allows you to turn an entire Act into a Terror Zone for the rest of that game session. One shard equals one full Act.

Before you activate Wide Terrorization, check the current Terror Zone's modifiers. Avoid "Extra Strong" modifiers, which can be lethal for most builds. Look for modifiers like "Cold Enchanted," "Fire Enchanted," or "Lightning Enchanted," which are generally safer.

Because Herald spawns scale directly with how fast you kill elites. Wide Terrorization turns every single zone in an Act into a high-density elite farming ground. You can go from the Den of Evil to the Cow Level in Act 1 without ever losing the Terror Zone bonus. This lets you stack Herald levels to 5 incredibly fast.

 

Best Farming Route For Sunder Charms In Season 13

To maximize elite kills per hour and trigger more Heralds, use this specific route once Wide Terrorization is active:

Act 5 (The Opener): Waypoint to Halls of Pain or Worldstone Keep. The elite density here is unmatched for building your Herald level quickly.

Act 2 (Density King): Clear all seven Tal Rasha's Tombs. The tight packing of Scarabs and Mummies makes triggering Heralds almost guaranteed.

Act 3 (The Pro Tip): Focus on the Flayer Jungle. Flayer Shamans count as two kills (the Shaman and the exploding corpse), giving you double the trigger chance per pack.

Act 1 (The Cleanup): Finish with the Cow Level and Underground Passages to maximize your Level 5 Herald drops before resetting.

Best Magic Find Percentage For Sunder Charm Farming In S13

A lot of players stack 500% Magic Find for this farm. In Season 13, that is a mistake.

Magic Find does affect the chance that a dropped Sunder Charm becomes Latent or Renewed quality. But after 350% Magic Find, the diminishing returns become brutal. You end up sacrificing kill speed for very little gain.

The sweet spot for Magic Find in Season 13 is 300-350%. At that range, you get most of the benefit without giving up your clear speed.

Remember this rule: the number of Heralds you kill per hour matters more than an extra 50 Magic Find points. A level 5 Herald killed quickly is worth far more than a level 1 Herald killed slowly with maximum Magic Find.

How To Upgrade Latent Sunder To Renewed Sunder In Season 13

You might finally find a Latent Sunder Charm, like one with -90% Fire Resistance, and get excited. Do not get too excited just yet.

In Season 13, the Latent Sunder is just a crafting base. It is terrible by itself. The real endgame item is the Renewed Sunder, which has only -45% resistance plus bonus damage stats.

Turning a Latent Sunder into a Renewed Sunder requires specific materials. You will need Worldstone Shards, high runes, and a specific Horadric Cube recipe. The exact recipe varies depending on which type of Sunder Charm you are upgrading.

This upgrade process is where the real value comes from. A well-rolled Renewed Sunder with +15% elemental damage or -X% enemy resistance is worth significantly more than a raw Latent Sunder.

Do not expect to find a perfect Renewed Sunder on the ground. That is not how Season 13 works anymore. The farm is for Latent Sunders and upgrade materials. The craft is where the magic happens.

 

Common Mistakes To Avoid When Farming Sunder Charms In S13

Here are the most common mistakes I see players making when farming Sunder Charms in Season 13:

Mistake 1: Wasting time on normal mobs in Terror Zones. Normal monsters do not drop Sunder Charms anymore. Focus only on elites, champion packs, and unique monsters.

Mistake 2: Stacking 500+ Magic Find. This kills your clear speed for very little gain. Stay in the 300-350 range.

Mistake 3: Farming only the rotating Terror Zone without using Worldstone Shards. Wide Terrorization is the key to efficiency in Season 13. Use your shards.

Mistake 4: Equipping a Latent Sunder like it is a real charm. Latent Sunders have -90% resistance. They will get you killed. Treat them as crafting materials, not gear.
