In Diablo II Resurrected, the question remains: Should you rescue Deckard Cain?

Throughout the game's storyline, there is a familiar non-playable character known as Deckard Cain (Cain for short). The first and third quests involve rescuing Cain, but completing these tasks does not affect the main storyline, which is to defeat the fifth act boss, Baal.

If you choose not to rescue Cain in Act I, he will remain imprisoned in Tristram. However, if you progress to Act II or later, you will still encounter him in town. This means that regardless of whether you rescue him or not, Cain will be saved due to the game's plot.

After completing the third quest in Act I, "Finding Cain," Cain will identify items for your character free of charge. If you choose not to rescue him and instead seek his item identification services, he will charge 100 gold coins per item. Additionally, in the standard version of the game, this quest is one of the requirements to unlock the secret cow level. To do so, you must complete the current difficulty, then return to Tristram where Cain was imprisoned. Locate a corpse in the top left corner and retrieve the "Veil of Terror" leg. Take it back to Rogue Encampment and combine it with a Return To Town scroll (not a Tome) to unlock the hidden Cow Level.

Completing this quest is not difficult. First, head to the "Tristram Forest" and obtain the "Ancient Necromancer's Tome." Next, speak with Alcazar who will provide further instructions on how to find the "Stone Cairn" in the "Stony Field." Follow the specific order of clicking on the cairns to activate the portal leading back to Tristram.

Cain is located in a cage in the middle of the room. You will encounter several powerful monsters throughout the quest, but with caution, completing it should not be too challenging. It is important to note that if you have not completed the Cain rescue quest and enter the room outside of Act I, you will receive a message stating that the quest cannot be completed. In this case, you must exit and re-enter the room to start a new game session before continuing with the quest.
