Patch 3.3 changed how Heralds fit into Terror Zone farming. Tier 3 and higher Heralds now have a better chance to drop Rare-quality and higher-quality items, making them more attractive targets for geared characters.

This guide covers the best way to farm Heralds without sacrificing Terror Zone clear speed or overinvesting in Magic Find.

D2R Season 15 Herald Farming Guide: Terror Zones

What Patch 3.3 Changed for Herald Farming

The most important changes for Herald farming are:

  • Tier 3+ Heralds: Increased chance to drop Rare-quality and higher-quality items.
  • Latent Sunder Charms: Minimum drop level increased from 69 to 75.
  • Magic Find: MF-related Latent Sunder Charm drops were reduced.
  • Hell Difficulty: Latent Sunder Charms obtained through Magic Find now only drop in Hell.
  • Heralds: Their drop rate was not reduced.
  • Worldstone Shards: Drop rate was reduced, with an additional item able to drop alongside a Shard.
  • Ancient Statues: Drop rate was reduced.

The main farming change is the improved loot quality from Tier 3+ Heralds.

Choose Terror Zones Your Build Clears Fast

Herald farming should remain part of your normal Terror Zone route rather than becoming a separate hunt.

Choose zones where your build can clear dense monster packs quickly and safely. A fast, consistent farmer is usually more effective than a slower build designed only to reach a higher Herald Tier.

Hammerdin, Javazon, Trapsin, and other strong Terror Zone builds can all work well. Prioritize the setup that gives you reliable clear speed, mobility, and survivability.

How Herald Tiers Affect Farming

Tier 3 and higher Heralds deserve more attention in Season 15 because of their improved chance to drop Rare-quality and better items.

A practical approach is:

  • Tier 1–2: Kill them while clearing the zone.
  • Tier 3–4: Prioritize them when your build can handle them efficiently.
  • Tier 5: Target them when doing so does not significantly slow your run.

You do not need to force the highest tier. The goal is to benefit from the Tier 3+ loot improvement while maintaining efficient overall clears.

Magic Find and Herald Farming

Magic Find still has value for general item farming, but Patch 3.3 changed its interaction with Latent Sunder Charms.

More MF is not automatically better for a Herald farming setup. If stacking MF lowers your damage, mobility, or survivability, the slower clear speed can outweigh the additional item quality.

For most farmers:

  • Keep useful MF when it does not affect clear speed.
  • Prioritize damage and survivability first.
  • Do not mistake the reduced MF-related Sunder drops for a reduced Herald drop rate.
  • Focus on clearing more Terror Zone monsters per hour.

When to Farm Heralds vs Ancient Statues

Heralds and Ancient Statues should be treated as different farming targets.

Focus on Heralds when:

You want equipment and tradeable drops.

Your build can handle Tier 3+ efficiently.

You are already farming Terror Zones for XP and general loot.

Focus on Ancient Statues when:

You are progressing toward Colossal Ancients.

You specifically need Statue drops.

Your current route gives you a good opportunity to collect missing Statues.

Since Patch 3.3 reduced Statue drop rates, players targeting Colossal Ancients should not assume Herald farming will replace Statue farming.

A Simple Herald Farming Session

A practical Herald session can follow your normal Terror Zone route:

  1. Enter the current Terror Zone with your fastest reliable farmer.
  2. Clear dense monster packs instead of chasing isolated enemies.
  3. Kill Heralds that appear along your route.
  4. Give extra attention to Tier 3+ Heralds.
  5. Avoid turning one Herald encounter into a long detour.
  6. Leave inefficient zones instead of forcing a slow run.

The objective is to maximize the value of the entire session rather than one Herald encounter.

Common Herald Farming Mistakes

Chasing Heralds in Slow Zones

A poor layout or low-density zone can waste more time than the extra Herald encounters are worth.

Overstacking Magic Find

Do not sacrifice too much damage or survivability for MF. Clear speed remains important for overall loot efficiency.

Ignoring the Rest of the Terror Zone

Heralds are valuable targets, but the regular monsters still provide XP, equipment, and other drops. Keep clearing the zone instead of waiting only for Heralds.

Treating Heralds as a Replacement for Statues

If your goal is Colossal Ancients, you still need to pursue Ancient Statues separately.

How to Judge Herald Drops for Trade

Not every Rare or higher-quality Herald drop is valuable. Focus on item types, useful rolls, skill levels, resistances, life, and valuable bases that have demand among current ladder builds.

Track several sessions rather than judging the strategy from one lucky run.

Useful numbers to record include:

  • Terror Zone
  • Session length
  • Herald Tier
  • Valuable drops
  • Sunder Charms
  • Other tradeable items

After several runs, compare your value per hour with other farming methods.

If your farmer still needs key upgrades, MMOSO D2R items and runes can help complete your Season 15 setup and prepare for higher-tier Terror Zone farming.

How Herald Farming Fits Into Season 15

Heralds are best viewed as an additional reward target inside normal Terror Zone farming.

For geared characters, Tier 3+ encounters can add more value to a run without requiring a completely different farming strategy. If your character cannot handle them efficiently, improving the core build is usually more useful than stacking additional Magic Find.

Is Herald Farming Worth It?

Yes, if your build can farm Tier 3+ Heralds without significantly slowing down the rest of the Terror Zone.

The best strategy is to maintain fast clears, take higher-tier Heralds when they fit your route, and judge the method by actual value per hour rather than individual lucky drops.
