Everything New in Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred Developer Update

Apr-24-2026

After weeks of teasers and a jam-packed developer livestream, Blizzard has dropped the full details on Diablo 4's next expansion, Lord of Hatred—and the patch notes alone are enough to make any theory-crafter drool.

The developer team has been cooking, and according to community reactions, the final feature set exceeded most expectations. The expansion goes live on April 27 at 4:00 p.m. PDT, and whether you're a die-hard eternal grinder or a seasonal wanderer, everything about the way you slay demons is about to change.

Release Time & Pre-Download

Before you start theory-crafting your new Warlock, mark your calendar. The Lord of Hatred expansion launches April 27 at 4:00 p.m. PDT. Blizzard has confirmed this is a global simultaneous release, so nobody gets early access based on their time zone.

Even better, pre-download for patch 3.0.0 began on April 23 at 4:00 p.m. PDT on Battle.net, Xbox, and PlayStation. You can grab the whole file now regardless of whether you've purchased the expansion, then jump straight into the action the moment servers go live. Steam users will need to patch at launch.

Expansion-Pack Exclusive Features

Keep your wallet handy—these features require the Lord of Hatred expansion.

New Classes: Warlock & Paladin

Two classes enter Sanctuary. The Warlock stands poised to wield the minions of Hell against their overlords, wrapping themselves in chains and flames as the physical embodiment of demonic vengeance. On the opposite side, the Paladin trains with sword and shield to protect the downtrodden, drawing on the Light itself to smite the Prime Evil.

New Region: Skovos

Set foot in the ancient region of Skovos, a land long discussed through Diablo lore. This is your new main hub for endgame activities—everything you need will be centralized here.

War Plans: Your Personal Endgame Playlist

War Plans is the endgame overhaul theorycrafters have been begging for. You can create a playlist of up to five activities based on the experience you want and the rewards you seek, drawing from six different endgame modes.

The modifiers here get truly insane:

  • Grigoire's Gambit: Opening chests in Hell Tides can spawn Grigoire's knights. Drop Grigoire's gear directly in Hell Tides—no boss fight required.
  • Golden Horde Chests: Farm gold more efficiently than ever.
  • Lair Boss Difficulty Scaling: Increase monster power (more health, more damage) for better rewards. That goes all the way past Torment XII.
  • Keyless Entry: Run Infernal Hordes or any other endgame content even if you don't have a key—the system generates one automatically.

As you progress through War Plans activities, you'll gain experience to level up your plans and unlock more skill tree options. Respeccing costs 5 million gold per point, but respec is available.

Horadric Cube: Crafting Meets Chaos

The Horadric Cube is making its Diablo 4 debut, and it's a fundamental game-changer. Want to take any legendary piece of gear and make it exactly how you want it? Now you can. The cube also introduces Transfiguration, a "sanctification-lite" feature with a rare chance to roll twice—but double Transfiguration isn't guaranteed.

You can also use Tuning Prisms to add a Legendary bonus to any Amulet with no risk of bricking. Roll as many times as you have prisms.

Fishing: Pure Cosmetics (But Who Cares?)

Yes, you read that right. Fishing is purely cosmetic—collect different types of fish, trade them with other players, and fill out your collection. No gameplay impact, but the community's collective excitement suggests it'll be a vibe.

Free Features: All Players Benefit

Even if you skip the expansion, your old characters are getting a facelift.

Complete Skill Tree Rework

Every class gets a full skill tree redesign. Your skills remain the same, but the way you modify, branch, and scale them is entirely different. Expansion owners get more customization nodes, but base-game players still experience the overhaul.

Loot Filter (diablofilter.com)

RZRZ's community tool is now officially integrated. You can import, export, and toggle custom loot filters across all platforms—including console. Set rules to hide white noise and highlight the Greater Affixes you're chasing in blue, yellow, or Legendary quality.

New Level Cap & Item Power

Level cap increased to 70

All gear now goes up to 900 Item Power

Eternal characters will need to re-find their gear

Torment XII & Damage Multiplier Changes

Torment difficulty expands all the way to T12, scaling up to roughly Pit 100. Experience rewards double from T5 to T12. Damage multipliers now stack additively instead of multiplicatively—so 25% crit + 25% crit = 50%, not 37.5%. Additionally, additive damage bonuses have been cut in half across the board on Paragon boards and glyphs, meaning the crazy new multipliers won't produce quadrillions of damage unless someone finds a truly broken interaction.

Map Overlay & Pathfinder

Long-requested. Toggleable opacity, color-customizable, zoon in, zoom out. The new Pathfinder system lets you pin a location on the map and get real-time on-screen guidance to reach it.

Uniques & Mythics Get Tempers

Put Tempers on all Uniques and Mythics now—something the community has demanded for ages. All Uniques are now chase items because their affixes will be random, opening up god-roll farming possibilities.

Season of Reckoning: Light on Gimmicks, Heavy on Rewards

The expansion's massive overhaul means Blizzard is keeping the seasonal mechanics simple this time. No new story thread, no crazy seasonal gimmick—just Seasonal Ranks and objective rewards.

Rewards include:

12 Skill Points, 42 Paragon Points

14 Resplendent Sparks

A pet, mount trophy, emblems, titles

Crafting mats, currencies, boss keys

Season Blessings offering boosts like:

  • Chance for extra items from the Purveyor of Curiosity
  • Chance for rare mats from salvage
  • Bonus Obducite drops
  • Extra Glyph upgrade chance (crucial for Glyphs leveling to 150)
  • Chance for Ancestral Caches from Whispers

The Tower and Leaderboard Beta return on Thursdays with each ladder reset.

Twitch Drops & Community Challenge

From April 27 at 4:00 p.m. PDT, watch 30 minutes of any Diablo 4 stream with Drops enabled to earn cosmetic rewards.

The global "Crown of Hatred" community challenge rewards every player with a cosmetic crown if the world collectively earns enough Paragon points after launch .

This isn't just an expansion—it's a fundamental reboot of Diablo 4's systems. War Plans eliminate the key-gating grind, the Horadric Cube finally gives crafters the control they've wanted since launch, and the loot filter brings Sanctuary into the modern ARPG era.

April 27 is the date. Whether you're chasing Paragon 150, theory-crafting an off-meta Thorn build, or just fishing, there's never been a better time to be a Wanderer.

Prepare for the reckoning, Wanderer. Mephisto waits for no one.
